INTERNATIONAL TRAVELERS ENTERING CANADA.
International travelers entering Canada are required to carry acceptable identification and, if necessary, a valid visa. It is strongly recommended to possess a passport as it serves as the most dependable and universally recognized travel and identification document for international travel purposes.
Transportation companies, such as airlines, are obligated to ensure travelers possess proper and valid travel documents.
Failure to provide the necessary documents may result in delays or denial of entry into Canada. Specific document requirements vary based on the traveler’s country of origin, mode of transportation, and the documents in their possession. Individuals should refer to the entry requirements specific to their country of origin.

United States citizens enrolled in the NEXUS program can utilize their membership card as both identification and proof of citizenship when entering Canada by air, land or marine routes from the United States. Members of the FAST program can use their cards as proof of identity when entering Canada via land and marine routes only. Permanent United States residents enrolled in NEXUS or FAST programs must travel with a passport and a proof of permanent residence and may be asked to present these documents at the border.
Travelers arriving from or transiting through the United States are advised to consult the United States Custom and Border Protection website for information regarding the United States Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative and entry/return requirements.
Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) is required for visa-exempt foreign nationals flying to or transiting through Canada. Exemptions to this requirement include United States citizens, United States Lawful Permanent Residents, travelers with valid Canadian visa, Canadian citizens and Canadian permanent residents.
Certain Visa required foreign nationals may also use an eTA for air travel to or through Canada if eligible. Applicants are encouraged to apply for an eTA well in advance of their flight to Canada, as processing times can vary.
